Problems you can solve using BulkRemoteAdmin
BulkRemoteAdmin enables you to save the prolonged administration
time and human resources needed for performing numerous tasks.
Imagine a real-life situation where a software company needs to integrate
its product on the network of 300 computers in client environment. The
integration process consists of a series of steps that must be made on each of
these 300 computers:
- Run the setup of a product (or any other executable, batch or script);
- Create a Temporary directory in a system folder;
- Reboot all 300 computers;
- Create (or update) some environment variables;
- Update the registry (create new Registry Keys, update some old values);
- Create a service (from any executable);
- Run this service;
- Reboot all 300 computers;
- Copy execution logs (in case that our setup created such logs in Step #1)
from each of the 300 computers back to the administrator’s environment;
- Copy Event Log files from each of the 300 computers back to the administrator’s
environment.
There are two system administrators with laptops appointed to perform the integration.
How much time will they spend on it?
First of all, they should create some scripts in advance (in case they prefer not
to carry out the whole process manually). Suppose they create one script for each task on
average. Then they should update these scripts with data about the new target network
(computer names or IPs, user names, passwords, domain, and so forth). After that they
should run these scripts, check execution results after each step, examine the network,
and only then continue to the next task.
Two administrators will spend approximately 2-3 days on performing
such process
of integration.
Using BulkRemoteAdmin, only one system administrator can perform
similar amount of work in less than a day.
There is no need for the administrator to create any scripts; network data can be
inserted easily. All the administrator is required to do is to create a Rule with
specified Tasks, import the list of computers with their data (username, password
and domain), click one button, and wait for results. The execution can be paused
at any time for examination of the results, or stopped in order to correct the Rule,
and then continued.
The working environment of the application looks as follows:
On the right, there is a computer list (CompList) with 20 computers added;
on the left you can see the Rule named Install, created
with four Tasks.
The Task Settings are presented in the middle of the screen. The Tasks
defined are the following:
- Copy Directory (which contains setup file, from a fileserver
to every computer);
- Create Process (actually, run specified setup on every computer
with parameters of silent mode);
- Reboot Computer (each computer specified in the CompList);
- Delete Directory (to delete the previously copied directory from each
computer).
In the bottom part of the screen you can see the execution details and progress
indicator, with options to pause or cancel the execution.
